2011 Wrecks and Relics

Picture perfect would be an apt description of the beach setting that presented itself to the competitors of the Wrecks and Relics. Though the surf at the Noosa Spit could have been a touch bigger, who could whinge!

A great weekend was had by all mature surfers and their partners. The entertainment was not only at the beach. Fun times were had by all at our base that was kindly organised by Jenny and Peter Richards. It’s amazing what you learn about people when their tongues become looser. Sworn to secrecy, of course!

CMC lived up to its reputation of supporting fellow surfers and helping out the organisers. That’s what we’re all about, plus it’s good to have someone’s wetsuit to cry on after an unsuccessful heat!

In the 50s, Brad Emblem and John Cleghorn both reached the second round with Stevie M finishing third in the final. In the 55s poor old me couldn’t quite get to the second round, while Gavin ST made the second round and Geoff and John R respectively finished fifth and sixth in semi-finals. In the Ladies, Julie ST surfed well to score second place in the final. Old Mal rider Frank W ended up a credible sixth in his final. The senior citizens in 60s heats ranged from Barry D and Darryl M being stopped at re-qualifying to Peter R who was successful by coming fourth in round two, just missing out on the semis.

Anyway, can’t wait till next year. Ah, one of the advantages of being an old fart!!!
